INTRODUCTION
TRAJENTA 5MG (30 TABLETS)
Generic Name: linagliptin
Brand Name: Trajenta
Drug Class: Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors
Tradjenta is sold in the strength of 5 mg tablets only.
WHY IT'S PRESCRIBED
Trajenta (linagliptin) is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor medication used in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise regiment, and possibly with other medications, to control blood glucose (sugar) levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Trajenta is not used to treat people with type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Trajenta works to control glucose levels in the blood by increasing the levels of incretins in the body. Incretins are a group of metabolic hormones that stimulate a decrease in blood glucose levels by increasing the release of insulin when blood sugar is high (especially after a meal) and decreases the amount of sugar made by the liver.
Controlling high blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes helps prevent heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems (numb, cold legs or feet), loss of limbs, and sexual dysfunction. Trajenta is used by people with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or death. Trajenta is also used in adults with heart failure to reduce the risk of needing hospitalization and possible death due to cardiovascular and blood vessel complications.
